One of the best ways to get involved in your community is by giving back, which is what Columbus Gives Back is all about. In this local spotlight, you’ll learn all about what this organization and how they cater to those in need in the central Ohio area. Let’s get started by learning a little more about the Columbus Gives Back mission!
The Columbus Gives Back Mission
Columbus Gives Back is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that essentially works to connect volunteers with different philanthropic opportunities throughout the Columbus area. By partnering with more than 150 local organizations, they’re able to bring together those looking to give back and those in need.
Columbus Gives Back all started with Juliana Pernick Hardymon. In 2008, she made a New Year’s Resolution to get back into volunteering but was quickly deterred by how difficult it was to actually find somewhere to volunteer.
Her first event to make dinner for the Unverferth House was posted to Craigslist in 2009 and was delighted to have ten volunteers show up. Today, the organization has worked with more than 2,000 volunteers and has held more than 1,500 events to benefit those in need in the Columbus area.
How You Can Get Involved
The whole point of Columbus Gives Back is to make giving back easy, which is why they’re constantly planning events and searching for volunteers. On their website, you can sign up for a wide variety of volunteer events.
These opportunities are constantly changing, but some of their past philanthropic events have included packaging meals for Meals on Wheels, shopping for and stocking local food pantries, working clothing drives, and much more.
One of the best things about volunteering through this organization is the sheer volume of events they offer, which makes volunteering around your schedule as easy as possible.
