A Note from Our President: Amanda Shafer

Happy Holidays, Columbus Gives Back! It’s so easy to be thankful for everyone I have met through CGB.  Every event I go to, there are always new people ready to serve our community and make a real change in the organizations we partner with. A little background on my CGB history- My first event was…

Event Leader of the Month: Andy Durczynski

The reason why I was drawn to Columbus Gives Back and love what they do is that I feel that I belong and have a purpose in their mission. CGB made this apparent the first time i volunteered back in 2014. I knew something was special. The main force behind what makes CGB so successful…

Event Leader of the Month: Caroline Chao

“Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends…” These song lyrics came to mind as I sat down to type this. As cheesy as it sounds, friends and friends who do good for the community are why I have been part of Columbus Gives Back since 2010. I was asked to share…

Event Leader of the Month: David Ratcliff

Can you believe it’s now September? It seems like yesterday we were marking the beginning of summer. Now we’re observing the beginning of fall, or as some folks call it, autumn. Languages often have more than one word with the same meaning. Soda vs. pop, anyone?

Whether you call it fall, autumn, post-summer, or something else, one thing that doesn’t change with the seasons is the opportunity to give back to the community. As a volunteer and event leader with Columbus Gives Back, I’ve been fortunate to witness acts of kindness, compassion, and selflessness year-round that make me proud to call Columbus home.

I love both the diversity of events and the diversity of volunteers I’ve met. Whether we’re out landscaping, serving lunch, sorting donations, or connecting afterward at a Social Twist, everyone has a different story to tell, and different motivations for volunteering.

My motivation simply comes from a desire to be part of something bigger than myself. Columbus Gives Back allows me to do that because our volunteers show up, get after it, and have fun in a variety of ways and a variety of places. It’s a simple model, but one that works well within one of my favorite sayings: “You can do a lot if you don’t care who gets the credit.” Sign up here and let’s make an impact, one event at a time.

Hope to see you at an event soon,

Your Guide To Giving Back in August 2018

It’s officially August. As a kid, I used to dread flipping the calendar from July to August because it felt like summer was almost over. Luckily, there’s still plenty of beautiful weather, backyard BBQs, and pool time left. There’s also no shortage of volunteer opportunities with Columbus Gives Back this month. In fact, you can find dozens of them.

We set out to make 2018 the biggest year yet for CGB – and you’re helping us make that possible. Our leadership team is offering more volunteer opportunities than ever before, and you’re stepping up to serve in our beautiful city. Why not take a moment to look through this month’s volunteer events and sign up for one (or a couple)? Let’s make August another record-breaking month and end summer with a bang.
